My new stenos...

I got a 1.1 pair today, for just a little over the cost of shipping, from somebody who was moving on a different direction with their reptile collection. (their loss and my gain, I suppose.)

They came in a little thirsty, but seem otherwise OK. With a little luck and some TLC, I really hope they will breed for me.

Also, I'm fairly sure these are S. Sthenos, but any corrections are welcome.

I've only got one half-way decent picture of them so far:

"A happy couple, Sharing the water..."

I tried to do my homework as much as possible, by setting the tank up and checking it out before they got here.

Any changes of suggestions are of course, appreciated.

They are in a screen-lidded 10G tank, with about a 3 inch deep substrate mix of about 2 or 3 parts play sand to one part reptical sand. (I already had a 10 lb bag of reptical, so I figured I might as well use it and throw it into the substrate mix.)
I'm using a basking light on a timer with a 12 hour cycle to make a hot spot in the tank. The temperature ranges from a high of 88F during the day, to a low of 77F at night. Humidity seems to stay between 25 & 30%.

There is a hide on one corner, and all the rocks & decorations either touch bottom, or are sitting on top of something that does. While the hide space is multi-layered, I'm worried I might need to set up a second hide for them to rest separately from each other. I started out with half a plastic pot, and didn't like the look of it too much so I over-layed a buried half-log wooden hide on top of it, making for a cave-within a cave type hide.

I set up a shallow water dish, just in case, but so far it seems they are happier drinking droplets from their rocks after misting their enclosure.

Yup, those are S. sthenodactylus. The cage sounds fine. I keep mine a little hotter, but everything else is about the same. I have 3.5 in a large tub, about 28Lx12W without any problems. Everyone has their favorite hide, but most of the time they are in a group.

Hmm, I suppose I could move the light in a little closer, and get the hot spot a little warmer, if it looked like they needed it.
