Hello, I have a levis levis adult male that stopped eating and is getting thin. I believe I have all the correct temps/hides, etc. He will die unless he starts eating again. I've had this happen to another levis in the past and it didn't make it. What should I do in this situation. He's got loose stools, could it be parasite related?? I keep the cooler side of the enclosure moist, could it be the problem that it is too moist?? What should I do?? maybe a fecal exam would help? thanks for any replies....

Oli, a fecal couldn't hurt and costs alot less than a new levis levis. Take a sample in to your local vet and see what they say. At least if it comes back neg, it's one less thing to worry about. As for the moisture in the enclosure, try letting it dry up a bit and see if he responds. And double check your temps. Maybe switch up your food if you have something different to give him to try and entice him to eat (ie crickets instead of roaches or lateralis instead of dubia, etc).

It's tough getting a good fecal from a small reptile that doesn't eat and poops only a little loose smudge. Can I scrape this up with some sand and bring it to a vet?? I've tried crickets, waxworms, superworms. I will let the enclosure dry down some. I'm trying to keep him hydrated, but it's only a matter of days before he passes. This isn't the first time this has happened to me either. There must me something not right. Could it be the water I'm giving to them?? I use tap water and use that reptile water de-clorinator to get some of the chlorine and other chemies out of the water. Does everyone use reverse osmosis water with their levis, or bottled spring water??

I bought a reverse osmosis system for my kitchen sink when I started working with A. Felinus since they HAVE to have it. Since then, RO water is all I use for all of my animals (and my own drinking water as well). Is he drinking water? Is he passing urates? Is he perhaps impacted? It doesn't happen often with levis, but it does happen. What does his belly feel/look like?

Thanks for all the help but he didn't make it. He was 4 years old, and my first knobtail. I gave him a good burial. I still have 3 levis remaining, I'm gonna concentrate on them. I got a bottom heated rack which may have been the problem and I'm getting my reverse osmosis filtration system installed within a week or 2. I think the problem with the levis may have stemmed from the fact that they were being kept in a rack with back heat, not bottom heat. Think that could make a difference???
