P.rangei ,more than one male ?

Hi folks,
I know that it usually isn´t possible to keep more than one male together in a cage.
But Zilger & Zilger (Zilger H and Zilger W. 1989. Palmatogecko rangei anderson. Sauria 11(1) 1989:33-36. 11(1):33-36 ) tell in their paper that it is possible to keep more than one male P.rangei together and that they won´t attack each other unless it´s breeding season. Even in breeding season they won´t harm each other seriously.
Does anyone have experience with that ?

best regards

Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,
Not exactly with P.rangei but I have already kept several males of Diplodactylus species together without any problem (I have experienced the same thing also with Strophurus species)

Jus wanted to add that if you try that, you should closely monitor the animals, as with some specimens that could also end with injuries: as for exemple, I once introduced a male D.stenodactylus into the terrarium of one female and did not monitor them closely and found the female dead after a few hours....From another hand, I keep groups of 2.2 S.wellingtonae in one terrarium during the breeding season also without problem (I separate the sexes during wintertime). So I can't confirm with P.rangei but that would not surprised me so much.

Yes Sebastian, several males of the same species; I have kept 2.0 D.galeatus (also D.g.granariensis) in 35x25cm surface area, and 2.0 male of all small species of Strophurus in 30x20x35cm terrarium. Also 2.2 S.wellingtonae in bigger terrariums.

well that were quite small dimensions, did you obeserve any intrasexual behavior?
when i once tried to put a 0,0,1 of Lucasium damaeum into the cage of a male from the same species in order to find out the gender of the 0,0,1 they started fighting immediately (after 1 or 2 seconds) and i had to remove the smaller male very quickly..

I have kept two male P. rangei together without any problems. I didn't have any problems with the two males during breeding season either.

Hi,

I keep several groups of P. rangei and I breed them very well. My groups normally consists of 3,3 without any problems. The males totally ignore each other, no dominating behaviour, biting whatsoever. In fact I believe multiple males results in better breeding success.

best,

Steven

P.S.: Sebastian (Schenky), kannst dir ja heute Abend selbst ein Bild davon machen.
