I'm still playing with the new camera...


Neither of these shots came quite as clear as I wanted them, so I reduced and combined the shot to something small and fairly forgivable. Still, it shows some of the striking color variation between day and night time coloration on a single species:

It's amazing the difference twelve hours make on the color of these guys.

Also, since I've moved them to a larger tank, with many more hide spots and more vertical space, they've become a lot bolder and more curious of the world around them.

Can you tell it was a night shot? (Just from the color of the gecko. )

An finally, just to show I'm not the only one who finds watching these guys fascinating at home:

Hmmm, wonder if I can make the date display conform to US standards? (It is month/day/year here, for those of you living in places with more sensible short date formats.)

Love the last picture. Our Bengal cat would do the same thing and my phelsuma grandis would have a fit.

Yep, she'll spend what feels like hours waiting to pounce or trying to reach between the wall and the back of the terrarium to get to the poor guys.
Still, I get the feeling that they feel secure enough to occasionally taunt her, as I can't really think of another reason for them to dart from one hide to another when she's out on plain view of them.

You can tell a set-up is fairly successful in providing the right environment when this becomes a fairly typical sight:

Just a couple more pictures:

And, no, there is no light colored scar going from the front of left eye through the top of the gecko's head.
It is just an unfortunately placed stain on the terrarium glass. :?
I guess it apparently needs a lot more cleaning than what its' real life appearance would tend to suggest.​
