Underwoodisaurus poss. health problem

Hello All!

As I never faced with this before in any gecko or other lizards I've kept before I need Your possinle diagnosis or thoughts as well.
Some time ago one of my young adult U. milii started to show the strange development of the "gular sac".
Here're some pics for illustration.
The sac is like an "air sac"...
BTW. It seems so it is the same formation also developing on the anterior legs armpit...
The gecko was always of the same "light" coloration, it's active, eats well and seems so this formation show no any cause on his health...

Anyone heard or saw anything like this ever? Is it possible a sign for any further diseases?

That milii has great coloration. I've not experienced it as well, but to me it seems as though a glad is swelling. Honestly, if you can get him to a vet, that would probably be your best option. I've heard of parasites causing that, because they end up plugging the pathways of the fluid, in turn causing it to swell.

Like I said, I really am not sure. Hopefully it's nothing serious, it might even be a hormonal thing?

Good luck though, I hope he stays eating and appearing healthy.

Hello Mikhail,

It is probably not the same but it reminds me of a iodine, and more specific, thyroxine, deficiency. It used to be somewhat common in Phelsuma in the past. That, besides a infection of some sort, is the only thing I can think of. The animal does appear to be healthy, besides of the "airssac", judging from your description and pictures. Maybe a vet can help you (perhaps some tissue or blood samples?)?

It is indeed looking odd and looks like compairing to the human being as it has swelling lymphatic glands...
It is seems so the herp vet is badly needed ;(

One note to add.
It is seems so this desease cause the hyper-sexual activity of this male.
He recently starts treating the male he lives with and no female around as keep it separately most time of the year.
May it be the hormone-caused case, anyone?

It could be possible. I have had one male of N.l.occidentalis with same problem and he also was without female long time.... Be carefull, guys!!!

But seriousely, would be nice to knew the real causes.
Seems so this male needs the care of the vet of the terrarium of the Moscow Zoo

I had one Eumeces schneideri(Schneiders skink) that developed some kind of lump but directly under head, about throat. He died, because he had breathing problems. Later on vet was arranged to check for the cause of death and firstly he tought it is some kind of cancer, but later on thorough examination he was sure that the lizard had vitamin I deficiency that caused swelling and stopped him from breathing. I am sure this isn't the same, but it is similar, cose in my case this structure was as a stone and not air filled.
