New Arrival

IrishGecko

Hi Guys,

I'm expecting a new arrival in a few days. Its a SHTCT juvenile. I've had a Leopard gecko for the last 5 months who's great and very easy to look after..as I do take great care of him.

With this new juvenile who's only a few months old I've a few questions to ask as they can be quite fragile if they are not looked after in the correct manner. So I'd like some advice if you can spare the time, it would be greatly appreciated. I believe he's eating size 3 crickets at the moment

What substrate should I use? Paper towels or sand?
What size Vivarium?
Should he have much human interaction...as my other leo (Arnie, image below)is so social, he loves to hangout, but I don't want to stress the juvenile.

Regards
Rob

Hey!
I love that gecko in the picture, so many spots! Dont see enough like that anymore.
I'd definitely say paper towel as a substrate, and a 15 or 20 gallon(not tall) would work best, even a 10 if the juvie is still small!
As for human interaction, give it a week to settle in with no handling. After that, begin to get the little one used to you, juvies are almost always jumpy, so its completely normal :) Just keep patient and it should come around! start with just putting your hand in the tank and letting it smell and walk on you if it pleases, then after its comfortable with that, you can scoop it up (never grabbing or restricting it) and just letting it freely walk from hand to hand!
Definitely post a pic when the little one arrives :) and good luck!
