Number System

Hi,

im new to geckos and i have one velvet gecko and plan on getting a 2nd in the next few weeks.

i have been looking around this forum and noticed the 'number system' people use.

what exactly does it mean?

e.g.
1.1 Oedura marmorata
1.1 Oedura castelnaui
etc.

(sorry if this is a dumb question)
