two of my females are gravid and previousely they have laid in the substrate but by the time i have found them they have been dry(always seem to lay them in the hot end).
does anyone use a laying box for their rangei. one with a moist substrate that will stay moist for longer while enclosed?

rangei breeding

Hi Ryan,

I am happy to hear that your geckos are doing well and producing eggs.

I do not use a box with moist sand or anything like this. I house my rangeis in fishtanks, with two to three inchs of red dessertsand. Once a day the sand is dampen with a watersprayer (normally used for spraying pesticide on plants).

The rangeis will dig their burrows and lay their eggs directly into the sand. In my experience it does not matter if the eggs are laid in the hot or cold end or in dry or wet sand, as long as you will take them out within one day. Otherwise it could happen that other females will dig them out an crush them. They are damn fragile.

good luck,

Steven

your females still lay dud eggs if you found them dry

as steven said the only problem with good eggs will be the destruction by digging activity of your geckos or your fingers
good eggs won't dry out even in a few days in very arid condition

but I also noticed that dry atmosphere can be problematic for the young to hatch
