buries head in substrate...

Well I just recently brought my girlfriends crested over to my house because she is over here more often anyways. He is a big fella fully grown and probably years and years old. He was bought from petco last year and was just as big.

These first few morning I wake up and he has his head buried in the substrate! It just kinda freaks me out because he has no eyelids and it seems like it would be painfull. I have just been picking him up and putting him in a fake vine towards the top and he stays up there until morning. I also have a sub-adult who is just around 6-7 months now and I have never seen him do this. What do I do? It is kinda scary seeing his head buried like that and the first time I seen it I thought he was dead!

My first impressions were that maybe he doesnt have enough humidity so he just goes to the bottom so he can feel moist.. I mist all of my geckos plenty of times per day, especially before bed so I am just baffeled by this :yikes:..

Maybe I should buy a dripper for night time I have no idea

Crestiies will naturally rest on, or slightly nestled into the substrate, specially for humidity. However, burying is usually reserved for females getting ready to lay eggs. Are you sure it's a male? Without knowing what your other one is, and if they're together, my first guess is that the older one is a gravid female. They'll also sometimes lay eggs even without having mated. These eggs would be infertile.

I am 100% positive that it is male. He just buries his head like a goofball and looks at me like a doofus when I pick him up.

Thats tottally normal. I have this one male in particular that will go in the egg laying box, which is full of artificial moss, and just sit in there all day. He's fine. My geckos will do that from time to time and i'm never worried about it, i consider it normal.
