Oliver, to simplify things in summer I have a hotspot of 88-90 and the cool side is naturally in the lower 80's. This climate is then kept as such until winter/cooling time(for animals of breeding size only) where one slowly lowers the temperature to the 60's. There are different opinions on how long the animal should brumate for, but the recommended time is generally between 1-3 months, thereafter one slowly warms the enclosure back to it's 'summer' temps. Search for n. wheeleri and you will get opinions/rearing techniques/enclosures from different forum members' previous post too which always helps. Oh, and I spray one wall of my enclosure, and/or a plastic leafed plant 2-3 times a week and they lick the drops off. They like it dry, but occasionally(once a week, or once every 2 weeks) I will slightly moisten the hide that I keep on the cool side of the enclosure(I keep 1 hide on the cool side, 1 on the hot side). They are easy geckos. The males are more feisty than the females, but they too can bark and get worked up. The females are very horny geckos, I was cleaning out some bombs from my female a while ago and I accidentally grazed her tail with my finger and she started to get all worked up(thinking I was a male!) She lifted her tail, started spazzing out, and was backing up toward my hand, lol. Needless to say they are very fertile geckos. Hope this helps a little.

Hello
The behavior that oli is refering to with females backing up and lifting their tail is a sign of "do not tuch me, I´m not ready" , I would say. If she is ready to mate she will just lay still. I never keep male and female together witout watching the reaction from the female. If she is not ready it can get quite violent in the cage......

I knew somehow that oli will answer.
Your remarks are absolutely helpfull, your attitude recommendations corresponded completely to my conception. Conception of the technology. I know the principle with the hiding places of my Cyrtodactylus so far.

Thank you both!

pittbull i see what you're saying about their attitude when the females are not receptive, but the female that I was referring to is breeding/laying eggs currently. I just have not had a female wheeleri that is of proper age/size that has rejected breeding with a male yet. Good luck with your wheeleri, they are always a favorite!
