Hello,
I just purchased a trio of young Phelsuma standingi. They hatched in March. These are my first Phelsuma , but I have kept varanids for many years. I presently have them set up in Critter Keepers, but will be ditching these as the plastic tops and the plastic access doors are not user-friendly. I have never used these plastic cages before and thought they allow me to keep a close eye on the young geckos. I will be constructing my own cages after my experience with these.
Anyway, I'm really enjoying these geckos. They have been feeding well, even consuming some of the roaches I breed for my dwarf monitors. Has anyone had experience with feeding roaches? I may give them crickets, but so far, so good.
My second question deals with UV/ fluorescent lighting. The breeder I purchased these geckos from uses Vita-Lites. I can't seem to find them in my area, but have found some of the GE full spectrum light bulbs How do these lights compare to many of the UV lights sold at the big box pet stores? Are the Exo-Terra, etc. brands reliable? I have not used UV with my varanids.
I'll read the posts in the forum to see if I can gain more information in case I am dragging up a notorious new keeper question.
