Gecko in Hiding

So i've had my gecko for 2 months now and it seems to be adapted but it never comes out of the hides except to go to the other hide. Why wont it come out just to wander around or anything? If we take the hides out it will wander around. Is there anything i can do to make it come out more or is this how it will be always. Its only about 4 months old, so this might have something to do with it.

Thanks

Same question as the previous poster...

And no, don't take the hides out. This will cause unneeded stress. They need places to go in and feel safe. If left in the open they can stress and that can cause a whole train of trouble.

Although you may not SEE him come out, that doesn't mean he never does. As I'm sure you already know Leos are nocturnal. They'll be more active at night so during the day, what you describe is actually normal for a Leo.

I personally have mine under a red lamp 24/7 so I can observe them at night. And yes, with most Leos (can't say all) you really can tell a difference in their activity between daylight and nighttime. I get home from work at 6 everyday and they know feeding time's around then so that's when they start to scurry about and wake up... It's cute. Then when the sun's barely peekin through my room at 6:30 in the morning you can tell that's the end of their "day" and they start dozing off... I have no idea what they do when I'm at work all day so you'll have to ask them. Probably partyin.

My gecko is a tangerine. I know they are nocturnal but even at night it doesnt come out. He pokes his head out of the hide when its time to eat but we never seem him just wandering around even at like 11pm or later. I dont know if this is just because he is still a baby or its just him.

Is it bright in the room where you are keeping him? A lot of activity? Maybe lights going off and on a lot? If so try keeping the light off when its night time.

we keep it in the livingroom. obviously there is a lot of activity since it is the most popular room in our house. its not in direct light during the day and at night we dont turn on any lights around the cage. maybe it will grow out of it.
