Sadness comes to the Lizard Liason

Hi family,

Today one of he saddest things ever to happen - happened.

We adopted "sight unseen" a "Ron Tremper, Albino, Eclipse, 100% het for Raptor" - or so we were told - If you've read any of my post - you know I dont believe anything til I see it with my own eyes... so I expected nothing so I wouldnt be disappointed.
The seller told us he was perfectly healthy, he only had some tail issue - he had him for 2 mths and just couldnt get him to fatten up... he said he was eating just fine, his tail just wouldnt grow.. well I figured - PHOENIX WORMS! That will help....

Every gecko that comes in my Lizard room gets 2 drops of Pancur - My vet gave me a huge bottle and I error on the side of caution.

He arrived last night, all we could do was cry he's in the worst shape ever. I emailed Ron Tremper and he confirmed - this was NOT one of his leos! (which we never believed would have been but I let him know some asshat (sorry) was telling people it was one of his!

Oh yeah... hasent eaten for me, about to feed some baby food and pedialite....just gave him a nice warm bath, and will give him more pancure in 2 days..... anyone else got any ideas?

omg! i feel so sry for the gecko and u, this could be labeled as animal abuse! are u going to report this? i would, the person was obviously did that to amuse him/her self! thats so sad i hope you get him better. hes prob thankful he's with a better owner.

I have always had great success with ReptiAid. You can mix it with some baby chicken food if you want as well. All the ones I have rescued that weren't eating loved this stuff, and it will help get them the nutrients needed to start to get healthy again. Best of luck!

I absolutely understand that you were in a complete shock, when you first saw him.
You could take a faeces sample to your vet, and have it checked under the microscope.
Hope this little fellow survives. But with you having take care off him, he has the best chance a leo could get!!

Although we did not buy him from a pet store, we did buy him from someone that works at a petstore - I called his boss last night and sent him photos of the gecko and the "story" the guy told us - He said he would have a word with him and would not have someone working for him that lies about animals or abuses them... He will lose his job for this...

I hate that for this guys family - but I'm greatful no other pet from that place will be neglected like that again!

Cindy, it's the saddest thing I've ever seen in my life, he's friendly, does not mind being held (I am VERY WARM BLOODED, my hands are always HOT...the snakes want me to hold them all the time *LOL*) he layed in my hand for about an hour hardly moving, but I dripped a drop here and there of gatoraid on his nose and he would lick it away.. I used a dropper and fed him just a tiny bit of baby food which he never even fought me he gobbled it right up... I have pedialite in his water dish.... Pancur (2 drops) ... I just dont know what else to do....

Thanks for the vote of confidence.. I sure hope I can save him, or atleast make his last few days as comfy as they can be....

wow thats very sad. i cant believe what people are doing these days. it was smart of you to check with ron tremper, so he didnt get the blame for what he didnt do. i hope the guy gets fired. someone who does that to a leo doesnt deserve to care for another one again. i would start by taking him to the vet, and see what he tells you. also, try the mighty waxworms =]

****UPDATE*****

He took a nice warm bath which made him a bit frisky (well as frisky as his frail lil body could be)
I put him in a warm gatoraid bath too - he licked it off his face and I let him stay in it til the liquid became cool.
He took about 1/8th of a syringe of baby squash and about double that of pedialite.
He's had 2 drops of Pancur - and Dr Mac (love him) said not to give him anymore for 2 weeks but even if he's better give him 2 more drops in 2 weeks...
There is pedialite in his water dish
He's seperate from all my other reptiles in the living room with me. We turned the overall house temp down and he has a heating pad under his tank and a black light atop of it on one side...
There's nothing more I can do for him... except keep doing this.
Dr Mac says to give him 2 weeks, he should come around with the above mentioned efforts or he wont make it...

I'll just keep my fingers crossed!

That is sad. Best thing you can do for him is leave him alone. Keep him separate from he others and just let him be. I know that it's tempting for you, but don't keep taking him out and holding him and giving him baths and whatnot. You want him to be in as stress free of an environment as possible. BTW (not to stick up for the guy or anything but)just because a leo is referred to as a Ron Tremper albino doesn't mean that it came direct from Ron. It's the name of the strain of albino. The other thing to remember is that even if it did come direct from Ron, he breeds so many leo babies, he would have no idea if it came from him or not.

PS how's your girl w/ the head tilt doing?

The guy told us that he went to Ron's facility, he and Ron walked around and Ron helped him pick out the perfect leo! that's the only reason I disagree with you - had he said it was " a RTA" and left it at that - You know I dont know my morphs that well I would have taken him at face value and agreed it was probably a RTA...but he insisted he and Ron picked this one out together... BULLS%T

The girl with the tilt is doing a little better, today she allowed me to pick her up, she licked my fingers (which were WELL WASHED from dealing with the other one) and she chased down and captured two pretty nice sized crickets... it's still tilted but definately improved from yesterday - and her whole shed is gone too...

I want to brag on my sweeeeeeet Vet - Dr Mac... he's been my regular pet vet for as long as I can remember - atleast 17 years. He's also the only Rep Vet in the area.... he asked me to bring lil sad guy to him, he will treat him like an educational pet, will write off all it's care to "research" and will do everything medically possible to save him, including around the clock IV if necessary!!!!! If he survives he will call me to come get him, if he cant save him he'll put him down immediately and let me know... Tell me he's not just an angel!!! I love My Dr Mac!!!!

He's really very thin. But as long as he's otherwise healthy and you can get him eating, he should come around ok. That's great that your vet is taking an interest in your animals.

Yeah, as long as he does not have something like crypto I'm sure Mac can save him! He's a great vet, back when I was much younger and didnt have a credit card he would see my dogs for me and take post dated checks - he really is a caring doctor - I love his license plate "Pet FixR" *LOL*

the cool thing is not that he's taking an intrest in them but that he's doing it for FREEEEEE!!!!!!

Update on "Sad One"

Dr Mac has him on antibiotics, and a gel fluid pumped right into his stomach (I think he said he gave it to him in a shot but he may have force fed him I cant remember) He said he gives him a 10% chance of making it - if he takes the force feed this evening he might up the prognosis a bit but for now he's hanging on by a thread.

I forgot to ask him if he thought it was crypto - damn....oh well I'll call about 5pm for an update... and I'll let you guys know...

Keep your fingers crossed, light candles, say prayers whatever it is you do....

(when (if) he survives - I may go beat the hell out of the idiot that let him get this sickly, I may need bail money *LOL*, so you guys stop buying leos for a few days and wait for my call from jail *LOL*)

nothing you could do now. my advice, get your next lizards from breeders. its the best way to make sure it doesnt happen again.

Do you have any legal recourse? I mean i know your not going to sue the guy but this was just wrong. I would want to make sure this guy that sold you this gecko never does that to anyone else. Is it time to start posting information about this guy so we can track him down and let everyone know to stay away?
