Looking for yet more advice...

Alright so I have a few more questions, more like details. I have found out 99% of the things I wanted to know on this site with out asking but I have a few things that Id like some general opinion on.

All of the questions are for one 5 to 6 inch Patternless Leo, in a 10 tank (yes I know it is a tad on the small size, as soon as I move in 2 months I'll have room for a 20)

1. For a little bit of extra night heat (I live in NE with cool weather most of the time and old houses) for a night temp of 78 or so and viewing light I am using a 25 watt moon light bulb, is that fine or should it be a red bulb? does the moon light color bother the gecko? Its very dim.

2. I am using a Repti Glo 10.0 uvb along with a UTH for a day time temp of 88 to 90, does that seem ok?

3. I have read every where you should keep calcium powder in a dish, so I have it in my meal worm dish, I figure they will kind of coat them selves in it and he will eat some when he bites them. Any reason I shouldn't do that?

4. I've read you should have 2 hides, 3 hides, moist hides on the cool side or on the warm side and any other combo you can think of. But I have a half log on the warm side and a moist hide on the cool side because the box that hide came in said not to put it on a UTH. So until I get a 20 gal tank, does that seem ok, or should the hides be switched around?

5. For feeding I feed him 5 to 8 meal worms with cal powder a day and 4 to 5 crix gut loaded with fish food, carrots and potatoes also coated with cal powder and vitamin 2 times a week. The cal powder I'm using is Rep-cal Calcium and the vitamin is Tetrafauna ReptoLife Plus.

So I think that is about all I am wondering, any advice and or opinions on any of these things would be greatly appreciated.

1: A blue colored bulb will not bother them

2: Get rid of the uvb bulb immediately as they can cause severe burns on leopard geckos and they require no uvb lighting getting almost all theyr d3 from the feeders and supplements

3: Thats perfectly fine.. in fact i also do that

4: For hides 3 is a good guideline to go by. You can put a moist hide on either warm or cold side.. it will just dry out allot faster on the warm side so I would advise keeping it on the cool side.

5: Sounds good just make sure you are using pure calcium and not calcium with d3. The multivitamin can contain d3 as long as its not used every day.(can cause calcium overdose with to much d3)

It will burn them even when its 8+ inches about the highest point in the tank? its a 13W compact fluorescent, its hard to keep the tank in the mid to high 80's with out a light. I'm using a Exo Terra Compact top that I have modified to have the 2 sockets work independent from each other so i have the uvb bulb kick on 8am to 9pm and the moon light bulb from 9pm to 8am. So what would be a good light to work with the UTH?

Yep it will burn from 8 inches as the range on it is 12 inches from the bulb. If you need a daytime bulb for them then an incandescent bulb will work just fine.

ok, what wattage do you think would be best? and what is it about that uvb bulb that is different then a normal one that causes burns? I wonder if I could use a standard compact fluorescent or is it better to just use a incandescent?
And thank you very much for your advice :)

Its the uvb lighting (same light that causes sunburns if you stay out in the sun to long). For a 10 gal tank I wouldn't want to use anything over 30 watts.. so a 20 or 30 would be good. A fluorescent would work but the usually put out less heat than an incandescent. You could also keep the blue bulb on during the day as that would be easier on his eyes.

leos arent fond of extremely bright light so yeah you should get rid of the uvb bulb, and use a normal incandescent bulb. if your uvb bulb is 13 watts and the temps are ok then a 15 watt incandescent bulb should do it.
