Thanks!

The seller I picked him up from owns the parents, and seems to have taken good care of him from the start.

That is Teico, which is what my 5 year old friend Byron calls all of his
"Unka Timms" Geckos.

Thank you for posting this picture, it very much makes me feel good to know that I can travel all the way across the country, sell a gecko, and and still come home and see his smiling face:cheer::cheer::cheer::cheer::cheer::cheer:

Thank you Fenriswolf, I took the utmost care of that gecko, he is the first guentheri one I ever raised, and I suppose he shows that he was loved!

And to the few who commented on how good he looks, that is reward in itself!

BTW, He is a Meister-line, from cb 04 parents. Both of the adult males show the white spots and vertebral stripe, the female has a retic pattern, no spots to speak of and is the pride of my collection.

I dont know the weights of the males, but my female was 11.5g two nights ago, and an astounding 12.6 last night, and asleep in the roach dish:rofl:

I also want to add that the female has taken to sleeping on her stomach, on the floor of the cage, on the soft peat substrate. I thought this strange the first time, I mean who wants their aboreal gecko sleeping on the ground?
Then one of the male started doing it, and after noticing no ill effects in the last few weeks, and otherwise normal behaviors, I have come to the conclusion that my geckos like to sleep on the ground when they are full.

Thats right, they load up on roaches and get so lazy that they sleep on the ground.
Geckos are a riot!

Is he still in the Sterilite?

IF anybody out there has Guentheri, be it to sell, trade for, or you just want to talk about them, that is where my mind prefers to be.
Thanks everyone!!!!!

Tim:

He is currently in a nicely planted 20 gallon tank, and seems to be doing fine. The tank he is in is getting a little overgrown on one end, so it's hard to spot anything if he's on that side. (I need to trim the plants back a little already.) I've had no shed issues or apparent weight loss so far, and he is fairly active at night.
I kept the water and feed dishes from the sterilite on the new tank, and he tends to come out and give the "food bowl" at least a look around every other night or so. (literally in this case, as he climbs on the rim of the little tupperware tub, and he walks his way in and around it until he is satisfied he did not accidentally miss a potential meal item in there and then wanders off.)
It makes it nice that way, since I can keep an eye on his progress semi-daily. He does tend to sleep nearby if he's had his fill, not on the ground (so far,) but fairly close to it, and he's usually wandering around the rest of the tank after dark.

P.S. I'll trim the tank back and see if I can get a decent look (and photos,) of more than just vegetation that way. :D

They sure do love their feeding dishes, mine so much that they sleep in theirs, a 4 inch wide delicup like most animals are confined to during shows.

It is very important to confine food items to a dish, Especcially for babies, and also to have a limb which goes above said food dish, so they can attack from above. Not so imperative for older juvies and adults, but you must make sure that babies are eating daily. Baby leaftails lose interest in a prey item if it moves awy too fast, so it is imperative.

I didnt notice the selection of ground level sleeping sites for the first year that I had the adults, but recently they started, now two have been seen at once, the female is always in the same spot, and will remain there as long as the lights are on. The 2 young animals that I have do not display this behavior at all, thought they do have the awesome habit of sleeping inverted and like a bat, hanging right above the.... once again, Food dish.

And I will add that the reason so few people reply to my posts, unless I write a book, is beacuse they want pictures! I will try to do something about this ASAP, and try to convince everyone I really do have these awesome geckos I speak of!!

Thats it for now, and if all of you with the guenthers dont like em enough to talk about em, SEND THEM TO ME!!!!!

I haven't got any guenthers, but thought I would add that I had some ebanaui that used to come down every night as soon as the lights went off to perch on a feeding dish, even if nothing was in it. Uros do seem to get trained to go to a feeding dish pretty easily. It's kind of funny

Thanks for your observation Doug!

I have kept ebenaui as well, and implemented a feeding dish in their tank as well. As far as I can remember, my ebenaui never slept in the food dish, but then again, the guentheri are on my desk and go to sleep wherever they are when I turn the light on, so I would have more observations of them than the ones which are in the rack.

It will be interesting to find out whether the ground sleeping behavior will be demonstated by the Guentheri juveniles in the future, as they have not started yet..

Keep the posts coming guys!!
