How many in a tank?

Hey guys,

I think I've fallen in love with a leo I've found online :D Shes gorgeous and I want to get her so much but I'm worried about the size of my tank.... I already have 3 ladies in there and when I bought it the guy said "yes you could quite comfortably get 5 leos in there but no more"...... I've been planning to start breeding them eventually so if I do get this girl there would eventually be 5 leos in the tank. I just want to be sure and get a second opinion about the tank....... also, since I got the tank I have added different levels so I don't know if you think that would add to the overall ground space. now as I'm at work atm I have no photos to upload so I've attached a link of one of my preveous threads at the bottom :)

Thanks guys, hope you're all well!

So that's about a 45 gallon tank. With the levels and everything, I think it will be great for 4 geckos, and fine even 5. Getttttt herrrrrr. =] Feed that bug! =D

576 square inches of floor space is what you have. I normally allow 200 square inches for each adult gecko minimum. A standard 10 gallon has about 215 square inches of floor space if that gives you an idea.

i have a 77 gallon tank with levels, that i use for a community tank, and i have up to 6 in there at one time, they all seem to do fine, just make sure you have enough hides and they should be fine. this year i used it as my breeder tank, and there are only 4 in there right now. i do have a rack as well, i will take out a gecko to fatten in up or if i see any fighting.

gallons is a horrible way to calculate cage occupancy b/c geckos can't swim...... floor space is a much better way to look at it.

as for amount of room to provide, well, people keep leos in sweater boxes, but people also keep chickens in battery cages, doesn't mean it's right. I try to give them as much room as possible.

Kazska, I'd say for now they'll be fine, but a larger cage would be better for that many, or just split your group between 2 cages when they mature.

I'd get a bigger tank... or even 2 if I had the space and money, I'm just having to put up with what I have atm.

And I completely agree with what you say about measuring tanks, I never understood why people measure in gallons lol

oh for sure! i love decorating. this is an old pic of my tank, i've changed it a bit since, some of the cactus were scaring me so they were removed, and i just recently took the others out of their pots, and are now directly in the sand, they seem to be doing better. the one side has UTH and i have actually gotten a cactus to bloom. life is good in my little ecosystem.

nice leo viv. here's one of my old leo tanks. at the time I was keeping 3 young adults to a 20 gal long (Visionarium). I've since sold off all but one pair and I'm keeping them in a Visionarium.
