New guy, couple questions.

Hey everyone, I'm John. I have a couple of question regarding a New cage I'm building. I'm almost done with a new viv I have been working on. I have been considering what animal I would like to keep in this viv, and geckos came to mind. I have only had one gecko, my current white stripped "skunk" gecko which I have really enjoyed. I would love some suggestions on what to put in here based on the cage and my knowledge. I have been keeping and breading several other herp species though. The viv is 17 x 9 x 19 and will have an external ultrasonic hummidifier pumping fog into it. The screen lid is going to get an acrylic cover, leaving a small part open for air exchange. Well here are some pics, I hope you like, its my 2nd attempt at a viv, first tropical one.

Looks good so far. I'd suggest a Crested or Gargoyle Geckos for a cage like that. They're tough, easy to keep geckos with great personalities. If you wanted something a little more exotic you may want to try an Oedura, Australian Velvet Gecko. They're solid, hardy, pretty and less common than my first two suggestions. However they're a bit smaller and don't take to handling quite so well as the Crested and Gargoyle Geckos but will tolerate some. If you just want something cool to look at and don't care about handling then think about a Day Gecko, or Lygodactylus of some sort. Good luck, and welcome to the boards.

Thanks DJ, I had considered cresties and some days, but didn't think of the gargoyle or Ausi gecko. I will check those out. The Ausi one sounds nice. I'm ok not holding the gecko, learned most geckos don't like being held with my white line. He screems at me everytime i have to get him out to clean the cage, and my old advisor had a day gecko that was the fasting living thing I've seen.

The Oeduras are really cool and not so fast as most phelsumas. Just remember one of the best things you can put in any non-desert dwelling gecko's cage is a live plant, or two, or three, or...you get the idea. Some tillandsias and maybe a pothos clipping or two would look good and really help keep the humidity high. Might want to try an epyphitic fern, orchid, or bromeliad too. Have fun and post some pictures once you get some plants and geckos in that cage.

Yea i already have one plant I want to place in there, not sure of the name since I just took and cutting from my moms. lol. But it was in a frog tank for a long time with no problems. Was think about a climbing fig or something too. I want to do some epiphite, but all the ones I always see are way to big and take up the whole tank! May try to order something from blackjungle. O also, I have a viv journal on dendroboard, thought everyone might like to see. Going to house frogs, but would work for geckos. Also I am putting a water feature in this tank too. I had an old pump that I thought wasn't going to work but it is! Using one of the exoterra water falls I had around. Will fit right in the corner. Will have to carve out some GS though.
