Hi Guys,

I noticed that one of my female castelnaui looked a bit 'chunky' just over 6 weeks ago, I had a look underneath and she looked gravid to me but now im not so sure as its been 6 weeks and there has been no change what so ever! I have attatched some pics to get some second opinions so please check them out.

Chris

I would say she is most definately gravid! She will (by the size of those eggs) be laying them any day. Have you got a laying site in for her as she may be holding onto the eggs until she can find a suitable site?

I have 2 laying containers one with moist spagnam moss and the other with moist coconut fibre, one is in the middle of the enclosure and the other is on a heat mat that is set to 30c. I`ve never seen them hold eggs at that size for any longer than a couple of weeks! I also heavily mist the enclosure every second day.

It sounds like you have everything covered there, I'm not sure why she would retain them that long. All I can suggest is to keep an eye on her and if she seems in any distress take her along to a vet as she may be eggbound.
