Gonatodes question

I haven't witnessed my G. vittatus male eating yet and I just discovered he has lost about a quarter of his tail! He doesn't seem to be losing weight but he is really small. I notice the fruit flies/ crickets don't seem to be in the enclosure anymore but there are vent holes that they may be escaping from.

Any advice?

He seems to show a little interest (i.e. he looks at crickets when they are moving around him but then he just sits there or tries to escape so I shut the lid and go about my buisiness.

im not clued up on this type of gecko but he sounds small, sometimes if there are alot of food items flying and running around him he will start to see the items as not food items and this can actualy cause reptiles to starve themselfs to death, i have a hekelis leaf tail that seem to have a prob feeding hiself ,he doesnt recognize the food untill its half put into his mouth a bit when he then rips it apart and eats it appart fro this he just looks at it...so i know your concerns, try taking all the food out for a few days and try not to disturb him to much aswell then put a few back in to his enclosure and see what happends.. try closing the holes off that the bugs may be ecaping from and without seeing your enclosure i cant offer any guidence on this.. he may have lost half his tail through being startled by something like loud noises or a cricket bite??.make sure he has lots of hidy places and cover ...so he doesnt feel exposed.. as this can stop them eating too!!, check the temps in the viv and humidity levels too, and just try some difrent insects or pehaps they are too big....or too small for him to eat or even see??? they shoul be no bigger that the geckos mouth ..hope he ends up ok. good luck with him

Although I still havent seen him eat, he isn't losing weight. He seems to be growing. I will just assume he eats and not worry so much.

Thanks for your advice.

This hamm show sounds great. I often wish I lived in Europe. As far as herps go you seem to have more of the animals I like than America does. It's a shame because all the shows here have to offer is Ball Pythons and Emerald Tree Boas.
