We currently have a 29 gallon tank with egyptian red lacerta's , they spend alot of time hidden. i have some snake plant and a reptisun 10.0 as well as halogen spot light and maintain night temps above 66 degrees and day of 78-80 near the spot light, of course much warmer under it...

i wanted to get something that is usually out and visible (my 2 year old loves to watch the lizards), so ithought of large day gecko's, plus the ability to use day gecko diet and fruits to sup-plement the mealies wax worms and crickets seems like a real plus...i have read lots of care sheets but they do not address are these animals usually visible....thanks

They are Great display Geckos. Our's are out on their branches or Snake Plants all the time. They are actually Quite nosy! But we have ours in an 18x18x24 Extro-terra tank. Two in one tank, one in the other(same size tank) With Tree Branches and a Hard leafed snake plant in there. They come down to drink out of a water bottle lid, Which I keep filled with fresh water. They Love their fruit, strawberries, grapes, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, a Fig ( they go nuts over those) a bit of ripe banana sometime. Also a tiny bit of Organic honey on their dish ( which is just a lid off a chip dip type container). Then they get every other day a few crickets dusted in Calcium, which they LOVE. I also buy Baby food from Wal-Mart that is called Apple/Mango/Kiwi fruit mix. I keep that topped up DAILY for them, also in a water bottle lid. They just love that stuff! They get the fruit every other day and the Baby food every day. Then the crickets in between. Plus they get misted at least a couple of times a day. Very Spoiled!!!!! But they do get Quite tame, not to handle, but to get your hand in the tank for cleaning etc. They just sit and wait till you are finished putting down more paper towel on the tank floor for them. I REALLY enjoy watching ours! I think they enjoy watching us too! Mealworms aren't really good for them, waxworms and crickets are fine though.

clarification:
i would not mix the giants with the lacerts, prob not the standigi either
i just want a naturalistic vivaria that i can see mt specimens in and when i feed them can watch them eat.
rather than sit w/my son and explain why the lizards are hiding....
i guess i now need to f/o were to get them...
