Prepared Foods for Day Geckos

Hi,

Has anyone had any experience using the Repashy Crested Gecko Diet as a substitute for fruit puree / baby food in feeding their Phelsuma? Right now I am mixing the two for my Phelsuma. I seem to have fewer phorid & fruit flies on the Repashy Crested Gecko food that I leave out for my Gargoyles, so I was considering switching the day geckos over to it entirely.

Regards,

Dave

I feed mine crested gecko diet and she really likes it, she also really likes clark's gecko diet.

I feed the MRP (meal replacement powder) to my day geckos and have for a couple years. They seem to great very well on the food. Of course, I include UVB lights as well.
I have a pair of gold dust that have cheeks like chimpmunks :) and have decided to ease up the MRP for a little while and feed more crickets and mealworms for the next month or so.

I use a mixture of 1/2 Phelsumax and 1/2 2 part Repashy diet and I add a little fruit babyfood all of my Phelsuma love it and clean their dishes

I have one adult female and three juvie Phelsuma Laticauda Laticauda. They all eat T-Rex Crested Gecko Diet, Clarks Frugivorous Diet, blended fruit and any combination of these three foods .... and of course crickets!! ;-)

I give them baby food everynow and again for an extra boost of energy.

Have you considered a small touch of honey rather than baby food?
Rather than opening a container of baby food and not using part of it (I usually threw out more than I would actually use), by adding a natural food like honey (not something made specifically for humans, you get that 'energy boost'.

I used to occasionally use baby food as well. However I too found that I was throwing much of it out. I have also read many posts that state it's not all that healthy for your reptiles.

That's why I now blend several fruits together (strawberry, banana, grapes ... etc. Anything that's NOT CITRUS! ) and freeze the mixture in an ice cube tray. You can then thaw out what you need and add any supplements if you desire. You can also give them to the kids or use them in drinks which is why I don't add the supplements before I freeze them. Sometimes when I thaw a couple out for my reptiles I will add one of the gecko diet mixtures to it for an added BOOST of nutrients.

It's cheap to make and my reptiles all seem to like it and are healthy and breeding!! ;-)

Blended fruits are great for your crested and day geckos. After doing this for a while myself, I became a bit tired of trying to get the supplements correct. That is why I went over to MRP (as it is a complete diet).

Wally I do use honey every now and again too. Honey is alot harder to keep in the house with kids than baby food. However I have enough geckos that I don't really waste much of the baby food.

DD from my understanding of freezeing foods they loss some of there nutritional value.

I have heard that as well but don't know if it's conclusive. In any event at least I know for sure what my geckos are getting because I'm blending the fruit myself. I suppose that baby food isn't all that much different and in the ones that I was buying the only added ingredient was ascorbic acid.

The fruit cubes work well for me and I will likely continue to use them as my geckos eat them readily. I sometimes add some plain yogourt to the mix to boost the calcium. However I've heard that freezing the yogourt destroys the bacterial culture part but luckily doesn't remove the calcium. ;-)

I will use honey occasionally but they prefer the babyfood to it, and my animals never waste food I might put a little extra in the dish for my smaller Phelsuma because it's hard to give them an exact amount for their size but all of the rest clean their dishes

Repashy here

I use the Repashy MRPs, both the Crested Gecko Diet and the two-part diets. The Phelsuma really like the sweeter flavors of the two-part diet and respond well to changing up the flavors.

If you put other stuff in the MRP you are diluting the nutrients and vitamins in there that are carefully measured out to be good for our gex. I have Phelsumax too, give that separately once in a while as a treat.

My Phelsuma are fed about 40-50% Repashy MRP and the rest crickets supplemented with Repashy Calcium Plus. I broke all kinds of breeding records for them and had just about zero MBD last season. The one case I did have was because the hatchling was in with the parents a while before I found him and he did not get enough to eat. All other offspring from that pair are normal.
