I got myself a pair of G. occelatus in November and today I discovered an egg in a plants pot in their enclosure! I am so excited about this! This is my first egg from any Gonatodes species. I have it in an incubator at 82 degrees right now.

Nice stuff. Hopefully it hatches.

Wow...Congratulations! I saw some pics the other day in one of my Reptile Books and think that they are quite beautiful.

Is this species commonly bred in the states and is their care much like most Phelsuma and Lygodactylus?

Regards,

Dave

They are not that common. I think only a hand full of people have them here in the states. They are kept similar to Phelsuma and Lygodactylus but they don't seem to need fruit puree or repashy. Also, they are quite shy, more so than most Phelsuma or Lygodactylus.

I use either Reptisun 10.0 or ESU 10,000K T5 fluorescent bulbs on my geckos. The geckos under the T5 seem to have brighter colors. Both are very healthy and breed like crazy.

Anyhow I would say you should use UVb fluorescents even if you are offering D3 supplementation because the geckos colors seem brighter under these lights. (see thread about wild caughts being more colorful).
