Leopard geckos care sheet. By Melyssa Carpenter.
Location: Leopard geckos can be found in the deserts of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Iran and India.

Size & Lifespan: Leopard geckos can reach sizes between 6 and 9 inches. They are considered a medium sized gecko. A properly cared for gecko can live as long as 20 years.

Diet & Nutrition: A leopard geckos diet can consist of crickets, roaches, mealworms, grasshoppers, wax worms and much more. Now because wax worms are high in fat i suggest giving them only as a treat. As for calcium and vitamins, leopard geckos will eat calcium from a dish with out having to dust the crickets. But as for the vitamins you have to dust the crickets with vitamins at least once a week. Mealworms should be place in a dish that they cannot escape. Adult geckos should be fed every other day and juvinile geckos should be fed every day.

Decorations & more: A leopard gecko will need at least 2 hidding places. You should place one on the cool end of the tank and the other on the warm end. You can make one of those a moist hide or add that as a third hidding place. A moist hide is a place where the gcko can go to shed its skin. You can make a real elabrit one or just take a tupper ware container cut a hole in it and place moisend paper towels in side of it. Additional decorations are up to you, as long as they are pet safe.

Substrait: You can use sand, paper teowls, alfalfameal, coconut chips, cage carpet, slate, gravel and more. The number one concern when choosing a substrait is compaction. You dont want to choose something that might get eaten. But also if it does get eaten you want it to be digestible like calcium snad and alfalfameal. The safest and easyest i think is paper towels.

Temperature & Lighting: The temperature should range from 78 degrees F to 88 degrees F and have a basking area of 90 degreese F to 98 degreese F. You can acheve a basking area by using a infared heat lamp or basking spot lamp. Leopard geckos are nocturnal so they do not require uvb rays. You should give them a light period of 9 to 12 hours a day, so you dont mess with there day & night cycle. Even if you have a shade open for that light period that will work also.

Handeling: Handeling your gecko should be kept to a minimul. Geckos can jump and get hurt, or loose a tail. Do not squeez your gecko, just let them walk as if they were in the cage. Just keep going hand in hand. Your geckos tail is just a fat storage so if it does happen to come off you shouldnt have to worry unless it stops eating. The tail will grow back but not in its original form.

sorry it is hard to read because I kept getting distracted by spelling errors.

1) You should be more specific about the vitamins it needs.
2) Impaction from sand not compaction. Calcium sand is still sand, it just has calcium added to it.
3) Your recommended temperatures are too low and should address use of UTH.
