Thanks,

That would depend on what type you are talking about, there are both Madagascan leaf tails, the entire genus Uroplatus, and there are Australian leaftails of the genus Saltuarius. I believe that there are some 12 species in the former, and 7 in the later, plus subspecies and some undescribed species. I am probably wrong with these counts, because I am not an expert and they constantly change. Care requirements differ for each, as do sizes (from about 6 grams to 45 grams?). The only one I have any experience at all keeping is U. phantasticus, a single male, and I have a ~60 gallon terrarium for him- but they have been successfully kept and bred in 10 gallon tanks.

Sorry for the long winded answer, in short: it depends ^_^

no thats cool any information is good info. i think i'm refering to the madagascan leaf tail. the only reason i do not know is because the petco in my area where i planned to buy the leaf tail from does not know that information which is very careless on their part but what are you gonna do you know. thanks for the input.

If it is at petco, it is most likely a U. henkeli, and wild caught, and will require ALOT of work to keep it healthy- WC animals most often die of stress related health problems. If you really cannot resist the temptation, go to the Uroplatus forum, we have lots of pictures and truly good information on keeping these guys.

yea it's been there for a while and it's not sick or deformed, just know one once to purchase it. i have been going there for about a year and a few months now and it has been there for about four of those months. i figured i'd buy it and add one more rep to my small collection.

Honestly, if you are willing to put the effort in, I would say go for it. Obviously, it would be better off with ANYONE who is willing to research it's requirements then in it's current situation. Honestly, 4 months and they didn't look up what it's needs are? Very careless, and typical of chain stores. I swear, that sort of animal care is going to get ban laws passed like you wouldn't believe.
