Hello all. I have a little rescued petrii that I just love.

I am setting up a 10 gal tank for this 3 inch gecko..but want to make sure it is big enough.. Also, how can I make a natural home for him?? I normally do NOT use sand for reptiles..but am considering the Desert Sand type.. maybe even the excavator stuff.. Has anyone had good/bad results for those??

ALSO... How do I find a "friend" for this little guy?? This guy was a very unexpected rescue..so have no idea where he came from..Anyone breeding?? He/it is so small.. how do you sex them??

Any thoughts??

my experience

I have a couple sand geckos that are breeding, if you are unsure of using calcium sand for a substrate. Try using coconut husk fiber substrate which i am currently using for mine and they are doing fine and my female just layed some eggs.

Personally, I would only use sand substrate on full grown sand geckos.

I use sand on all my dessert gecko's, also on the juveniles. These animals are born in a dessert and there is no paper towel in a dessert.
I have only lost not lost one animal this year and I have over 30 steno babies at this moment.
