Wheeleri shed during cooling

BOTH of the wheeleri females I bred last year shed 41 days into the cooling cycle (Wednesday). I'd never had this with them or any knobtail, and am not sure what to make of it. The fact that both shed, and at the exact same time seemed noteworthy. One of the females needed help with the shed, I had to carefully peel it off of her head and extremities, and the other has been very opaque for 2 days.

I cranked up the humidity in their enclosures to the point that condensation is forming on the sides, which usually pops the shed right off, but I've gotten nothing from the one who is opaque.

They both have been unintersted in food. This is atypical of the behavior I have come to expect, especially when the temps fluctuate, but I had to warm them up quicker than usual to raise the humidity. I've offered crickets and dubia's.

I brought them down to the low 60's on Jan 6. Neither have eaten since Jan 2nd. The both weighed in the mid 20's on the 6th.

I've been crazy busy lately and haven't been on here much. Hope you're all doing well. I briefly scrolled through some of the posts to see what you've been up to, and everything looks pretty much how I left it ;)

Thanks for your help,

Well, they both ate, but the opaque one still has not shed. It did eat a cricket this afternoon, and 2 big ones tonight. I think everything is fine, but the the events seemed interesting to me.

Hi Paul,

Glad to hear that they are eatting and doing fine. I would assist the one with the stuck shed since the shed can get pretty hard if left on for too long.

Interesting read Paul, I have found my levis levis not to be eating for a few days after shedding.

i heard that to help with the shedding you use a wet cloth and gently soak their extremities with warm water.
unsure though

Hi Paul,

Sorry for the late reply. If the shed has not been stuck on for too long, I just use my fingers or forceps to slowly pull the shed off. If the shed has been on for a bit longer, the gecko will either be soaked in water for a little while and then I help it with its shed or I just spray the cage it is in, wait a bit, and then remove the stuck shed. I hope she is doing okay for you now.

Yeah, they are both doing fine. I didn't end up having to soak them, a couple days of increased humidity did the job.

Thanks Derek

I had a similar occurance with my levis, she was just white (on the verge of shedding) for almost a month. I then naturally warmed her up, she ate, and a few days later she shed. Prolly a good time to introduce her to a friend after she's eaten enough times.
