How long does it take for a crested gecko to be sexed as male or female??

Some people can loup-sex them at the age of 3 months, but to really tell it with the naked eye, they have to be around 10 months. By that time the males show their hemipenal bulch.

I think it's less of a time but weight issue. Most males will have prominent hemipenal bulges at around the 16G mark. I've had some show this as early as 6months and others later on.
It's a fact some reptiles just grow faster then others under different care.
Experienced breeders can tell within days with a 10x or 30x magnifying glass what sex the gecko is.

Its always best to be sure a probable male is 9mo+ before you make a determination that may put them in harms way.

I have had 'females' drop their balls and turn out male with few or no previous signs up to 8 or 9 months old.

I´m not sure about that. Some pre-pores of the juvies (1-3 month) are normal in futures females...
Check the preanal pores it´s the right manner to determinate the sex about 3,4 month old. Not before...
Other hand, that people said, it´s true in my experience few "females" at 7-8 month "convert" into males because develop the pores and bulges late...

To learn it, you can buy a magnifying glasses and prove with your own lizards to learn for yourself, but my advice it´s always have a good teacher (an experience colleague) to start...

For example, this magnifying glass cost me 12€ with light...

I have been told by some breeders that they shouldn't be bred till 16-18 mos old so regardless how long it take to sex them it good to wait. In my experience I would say 9 mos is typical.

Hi ggazonas... I don´t know who you use to speak about but in my experience and like 90% people here, the ideal age it´s about 18 month old minimun to ciliatus por some reason... Please, check any book of rhacos to confirm this already... Anyway 9 mont old to breed (in females) it´s 100% wrong...

Once the female is about a year old and in the 30-35 gram range, a male can be introduced to her enclosure. A big/fat female is not always a healthy, productive breeder, so take it easy on the baby food if you're trying to fatten a female up in order to make breed her sooner.

Hi. Yes I know this text... In my experience if you wait till 18 month old and +40g the females put more eggs and bigger than 12-14 month old. At last, females that start to breed with 12 mont old or 14 month old stop her own growing rate because they have to apport a lot of nutrients (calcium, vitamins, fat etc...) to his eggs... This females have less longevity and seasons of breed than which ones start in 18-20-22-24 month old...
