Tips for breeding

Hello. I've been thinking about breeding by female crested gecko lately, and I just have a few questions about going about it.
1. Once I go about getting the male crestie, what should I do with the both of them? Should I introduce them?
2. Should I quarantine the male before I let them do their business?
3. Once the female has laid her eggs, should I separate her from the male? I'm going to have the eggs with her the whole time.
4. When I sell them to their new owners, what should the price be (estimate)? Should I make a contract with the owner?

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated! :D

Not sure, but I know you seperate them once they go into cooling for the season

2. Should I quarantine the male before I let them do their business?
Yes, most definately. You never know if he's safe from parasites or other things.

3. Once the female has laid her eggs, should I separate her from the male?
I'm going to have the eggs with her the whole time.
Not sure, but I think from what ive read only during cooling season as stated above. Or if you only wanting a few clutches then remove when you want your last clutch.

4. When I sell them to their new owners, what should the price be (estimate)? Should I make a contract with the owner?
Some do, Most offer a guarantee of some sort about 2 weeks or so but be very specifici if you do this...
my breeder offers 2 weeks guarantee but you must feed only CGD, nothing else can be fed during this two week period. And all husbandry must be maintained. Some people just dont know how to take care of them, so you can screen the buyers if you choose

Price depends on what morph you breed.

No. They should be housed in their own seperate cages to settle into their new enviroment and so that their weight and health can be checked.

2. Should I quarantine the male before I let them do their business?

Absolutely. What if one of the geckos has a disease? What would you do if it spread to both animals?

3. Once the female has laid her eggs, should I separate her from the male? I'm going to have the eggs with her the whole time.

...You're... leaving the eggs in the cage with the female? I think you have a ton more research to do before you even consider breeding if you're even considering leaving the eggs in the enclosure with the female. Some breeders house their pairs together year round, however they're experienced and know what stress signs to look for in case the male should persue the female constantly. I leave mine together a month and then seperate.

4. When I sell them to their new owners, what should the price be (estimate)? Should I make a contract with the owner?

Depends on the morph. The market is pretty saturated with certain morphs. I only breed high end animals myself. Contract is up to you, look at what other breeders have and go from there.

I'm no expert, but:
~You can leave a laying container in the females terrarium filled with peat, If kept moist she should go there to lay.
~After she has laid the eggs, wait until she has completely left them, you can then take a lid with a few holes in the top for ventilation, (not big enough for a Crestie to fit through obviously) And seal the laying container...
~Since the geckos terrarium stays between 68-80 degrees the eggs will be fine there.
~Check them every few days to be sure they are moist enough. Crestie eggs are not rocket science, I know plenty of people who use this process.
~If you want to Incubate them at higher temps constantly, then you can as they will hatch faster but generally if you do this the hatchlings come out small and often times weak, and are smaller as adults.
Its best to let them go the full amount of time they need to. Between 55-75 days, the average is around 66 i think...Do not quote me.
=]
~The female Crestie may dig down and burry her eggs, if this is the case after she has left them, you can gently uncover them and make sure that only half the egg is buried. I have heard of people leaving them buried as the female left them up until a week before their supposed hatch date though I do not claim to know if thats the right thing to do.

Thanks everybody...
I've already decided i'm not going to attempt to breed right now. I'm really responsible with all of them, but i just do not feel comfortable breeding at this point in life. I need to wait until i get a steady income before i try.

Not being rude or anything but if you arent sure about something it is probably best to not post about it as some people will take it as being the right thing to do when in reality it is not the right thing.
