Hello Everyone,
I just joined the forum and would like to say hello. I have been a reptile enthusiast for around 25 years or so. Two years ago, after nearly a decade of not having pets at all, I decided to get a couple of day geckos. I bought a couple of beautiful baby (females) grandis from Julie at the Gecko Ranch.
Despite the fact that they are sisters, the 2 couldn't be more different. The slightly smaller girl is shy and skittish and gives me the gecko equivalent of the middle finger any time I approach her cage! Unless I have food, of course. The larger female, kept in a separate enclosure, is friendly, curious and approachable whether I have food to offer or not. I never attempt to handle either of them and they make use of just about every inch of their enclosures (55 gallon and 65 gallon, respectively).
I have kept many types of lizards over the years and phelsuma have to be amongst the most energetic and engaging lizards available.
I have attached a few photos from their first few months with me. They were about 6 inches long (and 8-months old) at the time. The larger one is now just over 9 inches. I will post a few photos of their cages (complete with live plants like orchids, sensaveria, bromeliads and ivy) soon.
Take care...
Brian
