hi,

I was thinking about picking up a crested but would like to know a little about them before purchasing one. I would like to know the tank requirements, size, heat, feeding and stuff of that sort. Also are they agressive like the tokays are? whats the recommended substrate? life span ?stuff of that nature. what kind of price is expected for one? I think there pretty cool geckos and I thought about something besides leos. Thank You in advance............Shaun

tank requirements: It all depends on the size of the gecko. I would suggest a 18x18x24 for an adult or a 12x12x18 for a juvi and a really young one i would use a critter keeper

heat: crested geckos are fine at room temperature as long as it's around 72-80 ... anything over 80 is not so good for them

feeding: The best thing you can feed cresteds is crested gecko diet. I also feed mine calcium + d3 dusted crickets 2 times a week.

are they agressive like the tokays are? Not at all

Substrate? I use paper towels because it is easy to clean and easy to monitor their feces and there is no risk of impaction from them getting some in their mouth like other soils and stuff .. this is just my oppinion , others use coco fiber and some other things I am sure they will give you ideas as well

I am not 100% sure on lifespan , I gather it would depend on how well they are cared for etc but I will leave this one for others to answer

The price will vary depending on size, age, morph etc so telling you the price isn't really easy

78-82 F is ideal for them. Anything over 85 F is bad news.

As of now, they are said to live up to 12 or so years- keep in mind they've been in captivity since the mid 1990's.

tank requirement size - 10 gallons on up for adults, at least 12x12x18 for one adult

heat - none required unless your house is really really cold

feeding - Repashy Crested Gecko Diet with the occasional crickets if you wish...but the CGD is all they need. I feed crickets for a bit extra nutrients to fatten my babies up as they tend to grow quicker if you feed crickets occasionally and I love to watch them hunt.

whats the recommended substrate? - I use a cocoa brown kitchen shelf liner (the one without holes) It has the ease of paper towel but a better look.

Life Span - is said to be 15-20 years but this is also depending on care.

what kind of price is expected for one? for unsexed juvies at least 30 bucks but thats probably your basic buckskin, the better the morph the higher the price and if they are older they go up in price close to 300 or more depending on who you get them from.

I have my 5 month old juvie in a 12x12x12 but after he reaches about 7 months of age or 11 grams ill probably upgrade to a bigger one....

so in the long run if your trying to save cash, just get a bigger one now at least 12x12x18 or 18x18x18.

Thanks guys much appreciated. I went to my pet store and asked about the cresteds and I figured he would say he couldnt get them in ,however I was in luck. he said he can get me one from his breeder who breeds leos and sells them which is where my leopard geckos all came from so I am sure hes got nice hardy stock. anyhow thank you everyone for answering my questions I am going to have him order in the crested once I get the money for it and a terrarium.......Shaun
