So as I posted on here a few months ago I rescued a gecko in Nov. who I was told had only 1 eye.Took him to the vet for an unrelated problem and found out he actually had 2.The other just had a years worth of shed on it and was sunken in from lack of use. Got it cleaned out and was given Sulfa to treat the infection from the shed. Well because of that little problem he had shedding issues everytime he shed.He rarely used the bad eye as the muscles were very weak, so when it came time to shed he would always miss that eye.Every month he was in the vets office to have it cleaned.
Well about 3 months ago he stopped eating completely and lost a whooping 17 grams in 2 weeks!!He went from 59 grams to 42 grams. The vet could not figure out why?He was tested for parasites 3x,came back clean, tested for crypto 2x,came back clean, had blood work done to make sure his organs weren't failing and causing the problem, nope everything looked good.Needless to say I was very frustrated and so was my vet. We decided that hand feeding was the only option, so I was given a packet of Carnivore Critical Care to feed him. I was previously feeding him baby food w/ vitamins and calcium powder added. Every night he got anywhere between 6-8 ccs of CCC,as much as he would eat. Things were looking grim and I thought for sure I was gonna lose him.
After 2 months of feeding him baby food and CCC and seeing no improvement, out of the blue he finally started gaining weight. On March 20 we saw the vet and he weighed 42 grams, and 1 month later he's now up to 52 grams!!! And on top of that he's been eating solid food the last 4 days!!!Yaaaay! He hasn't done that in almsot 3 1/2 months. At first only wax worms would entice him enough to eat but tonight he ate 5 mealworms! I'm sorry it was a long story but I am just so happy he's doing better! He's the gecko on my avatar. He's still having issues with his eyes but as long as he's not ready to give up I won't I love that little guy.
I attached a larger pic of him so you guys can see him.Thanx!
