2 females no males? (P. m. grandis)

I am hoping to keep a pair of P.m. grandis but I hear a lot of stories about males injuring females during breeding season. Has anyone tried keeping 2 females together with no males? I am thinking about trying in a 24"x24"x24" herp tank? Would that be enough space for 2 without conflict?

thanks!

This will always be an experiment with all honesty. Some females will get along just fine as long as there are never any reasons for competition. Meaning plenty of food, more than one basking area, plenty of hides, and plenty of room which sounds like you are willing to provide. Some pairs of 1.1.0 (m/f) will also do fine while others end up being aggressive toward one another. The compatibility factor is a wild card. The advantages of going with the m/f pair is you get to breed.

I have a male and two females in a 45 gallon tank in my family room. The male does add dynamics to the group but what is interesting is that the females squabble more than the male with either girl. At night, I will hear them barking and approaching each other then run at full speed toward the other one.
I never see any injuries and it seems to be both of the females showing this aggression(? or maybe play).
As stated above, this will be an experiment as you will never know until you try. However, one thing I've noticed is that the larger the enclosure, the more room for error you have.

I have 2 females who are sisters and had always lived together (with no other animals). But at about 6 or 7 months old the slightly smaller one was clearly intimidated by her sister. She stopped eating regularly and, although there was no open hostility, I had to separate them for my peace of mind.

Hello,

when 2 females cant "smell" each other, even a complete room is too small. If you keep grandis,it doesnt matter if its 1,1 or 0,2,you always need an empty viv to separate in a case of emergency.
