Geckos for Dummies

Hey everybody!

I'm doing fine with the care of my geckos, but I would like to learn more about this creature. With that in mind, I stopped into my nearest B&N Bookstore, but I couldn't seem to find anything of real interest. So I was wondering if anyone could suggest a book or two for beginners. Any help at all would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Sked

It helps to start with what kind of gecko you are keeping or want to keep?
But for just learning, I found a great all around book is "Geckos" editied by Julie Bergman, ISBN 1-8827770-89-7 and it runs about $12.95 U.S. cover price.

Good question, here's my short list of titles;

Rhacodactylus, The Complete Guide to their Selection and Care, de Vosjoli, Fast & Repashy - First volume of the Rhacodactylus Bible.

Rhacodactylus: Biology, Natural History & Husbandry, Seipp & Henkel - The second volume of the Rhacodactylus Bible.

The Eyelash Geckos, Seufer, Kaverkin & Kirschner - A great book that covers a lot of the favorite geckos.

Day Geckos, Bruse, Frank and Michael Meyer & Schmidt - If you're thinking of phelsumas do yourself a favor and read this book.

The Herpetoculture of Leopard Geckos,Twenty-Seven Generations of Living Art. de Vosjoli, Tremper & Klingenberg DVM - The bible for Leopard Geckos by some of the oldest names in the business.

KEEPING AND BREEDING LEAF-TAILED GECKOS, THE GENUS UROPLATUS, Svatek, Sascha and Susanna van Duin - The only book out there on Malagasy Leaftails.

If you manage to get these books, some of them will take some money and looking, you will have a great start to an excellent herp care library. Sad thing is your local B&N probably won't have any of these titles and chances are won't be able to acquire some of them either.

The Bean Farm carries the Eyelash gecko book, (I wonder if it should have been called the "Eyelid" geckos book though?) which is an excellent book and is in my library as well. :)
I believe they may carry some of the others as well, so check them out if you're having a hard time finding some of the titiles.

DJReptiles has many of the same books listed that I also have, for specific species. :biggrin:

Understanding Reptile Parasites by Roger J. Klingenberg, ISBN: 1-882770-90-0 is also a very good book to have on hand.
