Amel Oedura Castelnaui egg...

Stupid me...I knew my female Amel Oedura Castelnaui was just about ready to drop her eggs so last night I stuck a nest box in her cage for her. She immediately went into the nest box digging around. This morning I went to check on her. She was outside of the nest box and I could still see the hint of eggs in her so I figured she hasn't laid them yet. I was worried about the lack of moisture in the box so decided to add a little more water in it and mix the material up to evenly distribute the moisture. Well low and behold she laid one of her eggs. I believe she still has another in her from the color of her abdomen. In any case I have a feeling I rolled the egg around while mixing the contents of the box around. I went ahead and set the egg up so now its just a waiting game to see if its good or not. Chalk it up to carelessness.

Mark,

It should be fine as it was probably still setting up if you rolled it. The thing that I would be worried about is a egg bound female. Them laying eggs at different times if not a good thing. She should have laid both eggs together all at once and covered them up.

Best of luck with that.

I was hoping someone would say that. I checked the nest box once more to see if I missed the second egg. Came up with nothing so either she still has it in her or hopefully this was a one egg clutch. It is her first clutch of this season so we'll see.

Mark,

It is not uncommon for geckos to have single egg first clutches. To my knowledge there is not much that can be safely done for a egg bound female gecko.

Clark,
I know you have a lot of experience with this species, could you maybe lend me some advice? I keep getting bad clutches from my females. They were cooled properly and my pairs are both about 2-3 yrs old. I can't figure it out, any ideas?
