What you are describing is a hemipenal prolapse. Put him in a dish of lukewarm water ASAP, and get him to a vet. You must not let the area dry out (it will die). Keep him on moist paper towels, and you can even put Vaseline on the affected area to help keep it moist. The lubrication may help it naturally retract, but this is rare without a vet's help. The vet will also be able to determine if it is indeed a hemipenis or part of his intestine (a pic could be great). Is he pooping ok? Eating ok? sometimes the prolapse, being so close to his vent, and dragged on the ground, can become inflamed and unable to retract, and/or become infected. If you can't afford to take him to a vet, call a herp vet and see if you can get further advice on what to do. Some vets will do a payment plan (the clinic I worked for did, and it saved my dogs' lives when they got bad colitis). Also keep his enclosure scrupulously clean to prevent infection, and keep him warm as usually. Do not leave ANY crickets in his enclosure, if you feed them, after feeding. They could potentially chew on his prolapse and that's no good, obviously. I hope this helps and let us know what you do.

A prolapse is something that really needs a vet to take care of it. I would start making calls and trying to find a herp vet in your area. Shouldn't be more than $100 to take care of your gecko.

he pooped this morning, but hasnt pooped since, he ate yesterday. tank was cleaned after i found this out and i got him in luke warm water noe so it doesnt dry out, his tank is warm, at about 88 degress on warm side and 79 degress on cool side. i tried calling the vet i took him to last year, but there closed, i'll look around in the phone book or on the net to see if i can find anymore tht r open, there r tht i know of only 2 vets tht deal with herps where im at.

OKAY I saw that picture and I will say what everyone eles has said take him to the vet ASAP and do not wait another 2 days cuz if you do he can get a very bad infection and you don't want him to get that so vet is a must.

Soak him in a sugar solution instead of plain water, it will help. Keep it lubricated (basic KY Jelly works or vaseline as others have said) and make sure to keep him in a sterile environment

Let him soak in the solution for a bit. He might not be happy about it but please make sure you keep an eye on him so he doesn't aspirate any of the solution. After you soak him he might need to be wiped with a baby wipe or a moist towel or something to get the sticky off. Just gently apply the vaseline on the hemipene with a clean finger or with a q-tip. Don't freak out too much, it won't help the situation. I know it's stressful but it'll be okay.

Did you read the thread I offered? It's got a lot of good information in it. I'd soak him for a bit longer but try to keep the solution from getting too cold for him.

Had the same thing happen to one of my males... vet took one look at him and basically told me it wasn't worth admitting him unless it has been prolapsed a few days. After a day of sugar water soaks and applying hemorrhoid cream (reduces swelling recommended by the vet) it went back in. The #1 thing to do it to keep it clean and watch for any signs of discoloration (light pink is good dark red/blue/black is bad) applying antibiotic cream is also a good idea (do not use any with pain relievers in it). Hopefully he will get better soon.

well, i talked to vet at 1 today, told her whts going on with my leo. she told me three things, 1 it could be some sort of sticky semen tht can be extracted no problem, 2 the prolapse can be treated with antibiotics, and 3( i flipped out whn i heard this option), thy would hve to amputate the hemipene. amputate? why amputate a part of a body tht still has blood flow to it? tht isnt dead? she didnt even meantion anything about a purse string suture. i honestly do not trust this vet, but this is now the only herp vet near me, i found out today the other herp vet moved. i told her tht i was soaking him in a sugar solution and putting vaseline on it so it wouldnt dry out. i also asked her about a payment plan tht we could pay her monthly or something because we are broke right now, were usually broke the end of the first week of th month because of all the bills my mom has to pay( but we get food offline for the leos the second day the money is in the bank, so there taken care of for the whole month). there was a long pause whn i asked about a payment plan, thn she said ok, soak him in the sugar solution 3 times today and keep putting the vaseline on it. um, hello, this has been like this for a day already, im being told by people on a gecko forum tht he should go to the vet ASAP, and he has to wait another day, wht is it becuase i said i was broke? so anyway, she said drop him off before 10am tomarrow and we will keep and and see wht we can do to help him inbetween patients. now i know some of you, or all of you are going to say thy alot of work to do on other animals, but i wish you all could have been there whn i told her i was broke and wanted to know if we could work out a payment plan, her tone changed, to me it sounded like well since your broke we'll put you on the back burner and get to you whn we get to you, while he has to stuffer. im really sorry this just makes me angry, but i did my best to get him help today, i guess we'll see wht happens tomarrow.
