using Tiki Torch for bamboo?

I heard that L. Williamsi like to lay eggs in bamboo, so i bought a tiki torch at Home Depo for $3, and I figure I can cut it up into 3-5" chunks and decorate the tank with it.

Does anyone see any problems with using this in a terrarium? Is there any ways i should sterilize it?

Thanks!

I don't know, but I never thought of trying that. I think it is a good idea, provided they aren't treated with something dangerous.

I'm thinking as cheap and mass produced as tiki torches are, they probably don't bother to treat or coat the bamboo with anything, and its probably fine for terrarium use after a quick wash.

Any other input/opinions/concerns?

Also, where do YOU guys get your bamboo from?

I just got a couple small pieces from the floral shop in my town. They gave them to me for like 50 cents each. They each were about 15 inches long, which fit perfectly in my cage. There are several people who have bamboo availible. I posted a wanted ad, and got several replies (of course, I found out I didn't need anymore bamboo after that) but just look around.

Saw your post and went out that day and checked out the torches down at Lowes..........hey what a great idea ya had there !!!!Looks like there is a very light coating on them .......figure if dry and most likely safe any way ...........so I bought a cpl of them ..............When home just to be a little on the safe side I cut the torches up in different sizes (from about 12 inches to a few about three feet long) . I then took them to the wheel grinder and with the wire brush disk I gave them all a working over to take the fine coal off............So far woks good and they are getting a bit weathered looking already...............so I did get most the protective coat off easy .....

I like that they are good size as far as around..............I ground a cpl holes in the stock of the bambo to give the Geckos a few hole to crawl in and out of at night or when ever they may be a little up tight . I did put a little ground husks in each hole to hold a little dampness in there also ............

Great Idae you guys had ........plus they look quite natural in the viv .............thanks

bamboo

Great idea. I go to a craft store Micheal's and get my bamboo there, they don't seem to be treated and it's cheap.

Well, i've been using it in the terrarium for a couple of weeks now. No ill side effects, and I've even got some eggs on them now!!!

I didnt treat the bamboo in any way, I just cut it and put it in there.
