Hey I've been looking for a Crestie but got kinda confused about this. The Crestie I'm looking at is listed as:

"Crested Gecko (CB'09) Baby - Normal colour"

Ok, Captive bred, Born 2009, Baby but what is normal colour ? the light browns and greys ? Anyone got pictures

Thanks :)

someone uses "normal" or "ancestral" .. even if it is wrong becaus cresties have an enormous variety of colors in the wild

That is a very odd way to refer to crestie color... One book I have says that buckskins, a tan-brown color, are the most common in the wild and it probably has minimal markings. i imagin it does have some slight markings though, and the use of the unusual term is a way to avoid saying things like 'minimal brindle' or 'almost patternless'- which don't really sound good when you are trying to 'pitch a product'. Although another possibility (if they were selling many geckos) is that they were being lazy and the meant that the gecko looks like all the others they have.

Here in the uk, alot of people seem to call buckskins and patternless geckos 'normals'. Hope that helps,

Ed ;-)

In the Uk is a "Normal" hatchling worth £50 ? Seems abit pricey, Although I have seen some rather cheap ones recently, But there all too far

Thanks.

it depends on how healthy it is, how big it is and loads of other factors. I got a 'normal' one for £60 but it is in top health condition and i trust the shop owner that he has no diseases...

It really does depend on where you go...

CaptiveBredGemsCBGnS v4

That is the place i went and they have loads of them in a tank so you can choose a good one that isnt necessarily 'normal' coloured, if you are close enough that is...

Crested geckos babies dont normally go for anything less than £50 (I've seen a very few amount go for £40 a while back). So i would have said £50 for a 'normal' baby crestie would be the standard price. Hope that helps,

Ed :)

edit: forgot to add, those are prices from private breeders/sellers. Shops normally sell them for a bit more to make some profit to keep the business going :)

We have stopped breeding crested geckos and gargoyle geckos all together simply because everyone has one and we could never sell the hatchlings. We were asking £30 in the end for baby striped gargoyle geckos, because the market is just completely flooded. So yes, you might be looking at £50 in a *shop*, but private breeders will probably now sell them for half that.

im trying to stick with high end crestys,as graham says it can be difficult to move the "average"ones on,i sell buckskins at 40,sometimes less in multiples to a good shop near me,(he still knocks them out at 90!!!!,and 120 for flames/harleys)
there is no shortfall in the high end stuff however, everyone wants reds, creams, pins over here,im strict with myself now,i wont buy any crestys unless they are drop dead gorgus,
ive got some nice harleys for sale from good stock if your still in the market(im in n.london)
