Okay, so Ive spent hours and hours browsing this forum for info and finally decided it was about time I joined. I am due to collect what is advertised as an adult pair of L. Williamsi next weekend :yahoo: but due to seeing so many threads regarding 'females' turning out to be males I would appreciate a more knowledgeable opinion on the sex of my 'female'. Please look at the photos below and tell me what you think, unfortunately I have no better pictures...

Any help appreciated, thanks everyone

Can you post a detailed view of the ventral area, especially head and anal region? That we need for a definite answer.

Sex of L. williamisi...

Far from an expert, but my initial impression is a pair. Try to provide a ventral shot, including the gular/throat area. Is it a solid blue/black patch on the underside of the throat? If so, probably a male. If it is diffused, or striped, more likely a female. I was pretty worked up and confused when I first obtained my pair, but catching them copulating confirmed they are a pair. Good luck, Vic

No better pics available Im afraid...

The person Ive been dealing with has been extremely helpful though and it doesnt appear ther's been any fighting even though theyve been together for a few weeks now, I would have thought if they were both males then the 'female' would look much darker as a subdued male.

Thanks for the help, all replies appreciated.

For about 4 months I had 2 males together before I realized that's what they were, I never observed any aggression and quite honestly, the male looked like an extremely pretty female. It wasn't till it started to mature and get it's black throat that I realized anything was amiss. Good luck with yours though!
