I finaly finished hand training my leopard gecko:yahoo:. This leopard gecko took some patiance:roll:. She can ride around on my shoulder, I can hand feed her, she comes to me on her own, she is comftorable with my family, and I can train him to probably trust anyone. That is a nice acomplishment.

Congrats on hand training your gecko! :) Did you video tape any training sessions? Do you have any tips for people that are training or going to train their geckos?

Nop I did not video tape training sessions. It took about 1 month to train her ( unusaly long). The best tip is start easy! do not over do it or it will not work. What worked best with this leopard gecko is holding a cricket or mealworm in front of her. After she got used to this I did no have much trouble training her. But, it a long time before I could pick her up. If you want, I can write out what I "did" in steps and post it.

That would be nice as I plan on getting an adult leopard gecko from a breeder. I have no idea if she will be trained or not. The breeder has two SPTCTB's for $40 each.

1. Try feeding the leopad gecko from your hand, Hold it inbetween your two fingers and hold it out to the leopard gecko.
2. Try petting your leopard gecko from front to back. If she raises her tail and hisses stop! You can try again later.
3. Put your hand on the ground infront of her and try pushing her back legs, ( don't push hard).
4. Try to get the gecko all the way on your hand.
5. Try lifting her up alittle.
6. Try holding him for awhile ( becareful )
Optional, 7. put him on your shoulder. My lopard geckos, when they have been trained, like to sit on my shoulder and ride around.

Hope you have luck,

Note, Once you have completed one excursize you can move on.

I would not be letting a gecko ride around on my shoulder. These are terrestrial lizards, not parrots, and you are really putting the animal at a serious risk for injury if it falls. Also, as "tame" as leopard geckos can appear to be, it is important to remember that it is way too easy to apply human traits and characteristics that they do not possess. I seriously doubt that your gecko enjoys it's rides around the house. You are most likely placing undo stress on it. Gentle handling is fine, but remember these are living things and not toys. It sounds as if you making every attempt to give your gecko the best care possible, just try to enjoy it for what it is and you should have a pet for many years to come.
