Small toads for good sized gecko?

I work at a golf course and there are lots of toads that hang out in the sand traps. Some of them are smaller than a quarter and seeing as my little lady tried to eat the new little guy that I got her as a friend, do you think that she'd be safe eating small toads?

Also since Foxy Lady didn't get along at all with the new guy (haven't named him/her yet) I put new guy iin a 10 gallon which used to be Foxy's home and I'm just using a 75w infrared heat lamp 24 hours a day since i don't have an extra heat pad. Is that kosher?

I would advise against this as I have seen posts from keepers who have fed Bufo and other toads to their varanids with deadly consequences for the lizard. I would advise against keeping such an animal with your gecko as they are not from the same habitat and the toad is likely toxic to your gecko.

Yeah, definately NOT a good idea. All amphibians, and especially toads produce some degree of toxic defense. There are a few animals that can eat them because they have developed minor immunity, such as Hognose snakes, but leopards don't have this. Feeding toads to your gecko will kill it. Not to mention wild caught food items are almost garunteed to have some sort of parasitical infestation. Stick to captive raised feeders.

Additionally, I'm not sure a 75wtt on a ten gallon wouldn't produce too much heat, make sure you monitor temperature or else your lizard could end up cooked. Remember you need to provide options in temp so the animal can thermoregulate, as in a 83-90F basking area and a cooler, 74-80F area so he can escape the heat. If temp is correct, then using a red lamp for 24/7 heat is fine, the lizard can't see the light, so it won't disturb him at night.

Anything caught in the wild, even crickets would be a bad idea, let alone little jumpers :p

But yeah, Ill back up all the opinions that are already on here :) Especially Rex's concern for the heat.

All the best to you and your Gecko :)
