Incubator Questions

I have a few incubator questions.

1. Do you put the substrate like vermiculite on top of the ground on the incubator and then put the eggs in or do you put the substrates in like deli cups with an egg in it but place the deli cup in the incubator?

2. When you check the temps do you monitor them the temp in the vermiculte or do measure the air temp?

Thanks

You want to place the eggs half buried in vermiculite in a deli cup, punch a hole or two in the upper side, and put a lid on the cup. This will maintain humidity. Monitor the temp inside the cup(the easiest way to do this is to set up a "dummy cup" just for the probe) as this is the temp the eggs will be exposed to.

Hope that helps.

I've got one better:

Get some Hatchrite (as you don't really have to add water to it, only if you notice your eggs starting to dent) put it into a small gladware container, DO NOT punch holes in it, and put the eggs in it, close the lid on the gladware container, and put that into your incubator.

It's really easy to incubate leopard gecko eggs.:)

Thanks. And you put the deli cups in the incubator? Also where do you get Deli cups?

Yes put that in the incubator. You can get deli cups at most reptile supply companies, it doesn't have to be a deli cup though, any sealable plastic container a few inches tall will do. Sandwich boxes, plastic show boxes, all work equally well.
