So I know Im not the only one to have this issue. My cricket and roach containers are infested with flys. They are not fruit flys and not house flys but those really super agrivating, hard to kill flys. I think they came home with me from work or maybe they were left overs from the ones that had originaly infested my roach colony before I redid it. Whatever the case may be they are starting to drive me up a wall. bug man was here the other day and he cant do anything about them without also taking out my feeders. I have my cricket colonies outside with the lids off right now so the flys can leave! but they arn't going GRR :-x
What I have done to try to help:
1. took all the cricket colonies outside and moved them to new, clean bins
2. took away the automatic cricket water things made for chickens
3. have been giving them almost all dry food and only enough to eat in 1 day so none is left over
4. took the cricket colonies outside to air out
5. covered the colonies with screen door screen.
6. the crickets have NO substrate

What I can't do
1. can't move the crickets out of the laundry room to another part of the house
2. can't do anything about the roach colony but the flys are less of a pain in there.

Any suggestions? thanks in advance is you do :)

Try putting flypaper on the inside of the lid. This will not eliminate the flies, but it will severely reduce their numbers. Also put flypaper all over the room.

I haven't had a problem with flies myself. But I've heard that using some applejuice mixed with dawn dish soap will attract the flies. They'll get stuck and hence die. Pretty much a home made fly trap.
