Hi!

I have a question about two species of Phelsuma that i currently keep, P.nigristriata and P.robertmertensi, the question that I seek an answer to is if these species can be housed together. They originate from the same place, the Mayotte in the Comoros and can be kept in similar habitats.
The vivarium is big, 100 x 70 x 50 cm, with a lot of hiding places and plenty of bamboo and plants.

And as a followup quiestion, can P.klemmeri be kept together with any of these species?

I wouldnt regardless of size but if you keep an eye on them and make sure no aggression maybe it could work but if you ask me no.Even with a big cage there is still not enough visual seperation like they would get in the wild or completely seperate cages
goodluck be carefull. Also pm me I want some robert's
thank's

My main problem is that I got two robert´s housed together. The bigger one, supposed to be a male, hangs around in the upper areas of the tank were it is warm(26 C). The smaller one, supposed to be a female, spends most of the time in the lower regions were the temperature is around 21 C which is too cold for this species.
I think that the bigger "male" is dominant and might stress the smaller "female" which feels like she needs to stay away and hide in the lower areas. I´ve never seen any aggressive behaviour but I feel that I need to separate them, any thoughts about this, what do you think I should do?

Hi Andreas!
If I were you, I would seperate the P. robertmertensi for a while... maybe the female isn't old enough or is a male too.

Concerning your question of keeping P. robertmertensi together with
P. nigristriata - NO... the risk of getting damaged or dead animals would be very high.
Concerning your question, if you can keep P. klemmeri together with one of the above mentioned species... NO... for the same reason.

Regards,
Andreas

I've tried to keep a group of phelsuma nigristriata females together and the result was the less dominant ones getting harassed and ending with scares and tails being bitten off. I've had P nigristriata be aggresive with other species of phelsuma as well.
Even with very large terrariums many phelsuma will still be aggresive with cage mates for the fact they are within eye sight and reach of each other. I've also let phelsuma have the run of my entire reptile room and they still will engage in territorial fights that have lead to injury and death.
I will keep some species of juvenile phelsuma together with little problems but once they reach maturity I will always seperate unless I am trying to pair them up.
