feeding trouble?

Hey everyone
I think i'm having some trouble with my baby crestie...
I've never had one this small so i'm a little confused

I'm not sure if she is eating you see - in about a week i've seen 2 poops from her. I offer her food every day, and the tank is at about 76F and she has plenty of places to climb (not too many that she cant find food though)
She is still very active and seems bright and happy

I offer her t-rex crestie diet (plain and mixed with a little honey), bannana baby smoothie, tiny crickets and i've even tried waxworms. She doesnt seem interested at all in the bugs, and i cant tell if she's eating the fruity mush. She'll lick it off if i put it on her nose but i figure thats not a great way for her to eat.

Does anyone have any tips to help me make sure she is eating??
and does anyone have any experience with feeding lobster roaches over crickets?

i'm worried about her... sorry for so much writing there

Well, I am no expert, but in my experience my geckos poo very little and, when they eat, you really don't notice because, I mean mine at least don't finish off the entire container of CGD. The bugs I'd be a little worried about, because mine go crazyyyyyy for crickets, but as long as she seems in good spirits and food is always available, I wouldn't be too worried.

Thanks turtlestork
my big male is just a big whale of a gecko that polishes off everything you put in front of him! He is my first crestie so maybe it threw me off a little
i'll just keep an eye on little Margot then :)

Hi,

How old is the baby ...? A few weeks, a few months ...?

I agree with TS, when they are juvenil I can observe that they just eat a littl baby food, which can hardly be noticed ...! But like TS as well said the babies from the age of about 3 weeks til around 4 till 6 months are usually very keen on bugs/crickets ... then suddenly it changes and the are more keen on baby food (have noch CGD) and they take the creickets not any more from the first moment, more later on hidden somewhen ...

Usually my babies are growing fast and eating very well ... But this year it occured as well that one who has the age of some months looks from size and weight like a few weeks ... His siblings are much bigger ... Now I seperated him ...
And a about 7 months cresty seems to stop as well with his growing ... :?:-x

I wonder as well why ...

Sometimes there are some some individual geckos who are more shy than the other and are not so suitable for company ...
But it seems that you already keep him alone ...

Sometimes it happens as well that they grow slowly but hardly to see, so take the weight all two weeks and you have some facts to see if and how much he or she grows ...

Another possiblity would be to set up the temperatures for about 2 or 3 ° F, because 78 or 79 ° F wouldn't be already to high, but could may be initialize the little one to get again more keen on food ...?

Good Luck
Peter

Aww, Margot is such a cute name!

But yes, Temperatures could be a little low possibly, but in my experience this species doesn't care too much. I was appalled about how little these geckos really eat- its almost fascinating! And another thing to think about is they are really all different. Every gecko will eat differently. I remember at one point my little gecko would NOT let me reach in to grab his feed container because he thought it was a cricket! These geckos are so personable.

I have to disagree with the temps, I'd leave them as is. What I usually do for my baby cresties is dab some fruit mixture on their nose, sometimes they dont seem to like this very much at first, until they get a few licks and realize they like it! Also, what size crickets are you feeding? I've noticed many of my babies will ignore the 1 weeks and go right after the 2 week crickets, they're little piggies!
As mentioned there are always ones that grow a little slower, and since they are so tiny you dont always realize how much they're eating. Sometimes I'll think my hatchlings are not growing, until I hatch some more out and realize they're about twice as big as they use to be! Good luck and keep us updated!

I still dont see her eat but she poops (in her tree... not great for cleaning) and she's shed a couple of times that i've seen so she must be ok!
Shes also got a few dalmatian spots on her now :)

This does work for juveniles, and it's something that even Allen Repashy suggests doing. Bumping up the temperature on younger geckos to around the 80F degree mark makes a big difference in appetite and growth. It's not necessary by any means, but it does work and can be done.

You know, I might start monitoring my temps a little more closely- i;ve noticed my geckos grow a little slow...but then i thought maybe its just me.

Good luck!
