Question about my current housing...

Hey! I just signed up for this forum a few days ago. I really love the wealth of information. I spent quite a few hours browsing through the threads here, and didn't really find what I was looking for.

I've had my R. Ciliatus for about 7 months now... First, he was in a tipped-vertical 29gallon tank (29x12x12) for about 4 months... Then I got a 20gallon high (24x12x16) from my sister and tipped it vertically for him.

I mean that the aquariums have been tipped on end so that the length is now the hieght, and the screen top is now the front of the aquarium.

What I want to know is - I really want to tip the aquarium back down... so the screen is the top. Like it's supposed to.

But is 16" really enough hieght for him? If not, has any made a front-glass door for a 20g high tank?

Here is why that screen 'door' is a problem:
It lets too much humidity out
It lets WAY too much heat out
Crickets can crawl out the screen
It obstucts the view from the front.

Thanks for any information!

I like the glass exo terras. Several of my friends and I have them and the double front doors are super convenient. They are a bit pricy, and zoo med makes one that isn't as expensive with a similar structure.

Get creative. Turn your tank contents so the screen is the side.(no obstructed view.) Then go buy a piece of plexiglass(fairly cheap) and trim it to fit over the screen leaving a space at the top to allow ventalation. Secure with silicone, let it fully cure. (this will fix humidity loss, heat loss, cricket jailbreaks, and leave an easy to climb surface.) P.S. Interior of tank looks GREAT! Bet you have a happy little guy.

Thanks for the compliment!

That's a neat idea. I had a fleeting thought like that once but dismissed it for no reason.

Today I will have to do a good scrub-down of the tank and re-arrange everything...

Pics will follow.
