My gecko has very visible blood vessels in its eyes

My gecko, Nero, has visible deep red blood vessels in his eyes. I just noticed as i had him out a minute ago and also noticed that he seemed to have trouble seeing. I had him on my hand and he was walking up it and kept hitting my hand with his nose, which he normally never does. Another thing i noticed was that when he reached the end of my finger, he seemed to grasp at thin air a lot then fall off the end when he lost balance. He is never been a very good climber as his feet dont seem to be as sticky as my other gecko's, Titan. I was wondering if the problem with his eyes is related to his bumping into things and falling off things or if it is a result of this.

As stated, he has a deep purple/red blood vessel from top to bottom behind his iris on both eyes with no other visible marks/ scratches on his body.

Any help is appreciated.

(i didnt want to call him/her an it so referred to as a he even though its sex is not certain)

:s Sorry to hear...

If it is at all possible, can you take + post a few pics of what you are describing? It'll definitely help :).

Are there any possible objects in the enclosure that may have caused injury from an un-calculated leap? If there is blood in both eyes... my assumption may be head trauma of some sort of internal injury.

You can check if his eyes respond by putting him in the dark and using a flashlight to check if the eye responds by dilating/constricting. The a responsive pupil will constrict when it comes into contact with light.

Imho, your best bet would be to go see a reptile vet. =\

Good luck! Hopefully you'll find out the reason soon.

im working on some pictures but the little bugger wont stay still ong enough for me to get a good picture.

They have gone down a bit and he has been a bit better when exploring.

Last night i checked and they were both on the floor of the enclosure just sitting there one with its head on top of the other one. As they are related I feared the worst and thought that Titan had died. Fortunately, i found that some leaves had fallen from the branch i have in the tank and were behind, ovbiously Nero had fallen from the tree onto titan.

THis could possibly be the cause but the vessels have returned to almost normal and there is no blood remaining in the eyes. As i said, it just looked like enflamed blood vessels in the eye but posted just to be sure.

I wont be taking him to the reptile Vet if he doesnt seem to be affected much because las time it cost me over £200 when i took them both in there because of all the administration costs and the 'special' food they gave me that turned out to be Repashy!!

Thanks very much for the help, I will try and get some pictures of the little bugger :p

Btw, i like your picture, he/she looks very cute inside that shell :p
