n. laevissimus breeding questions

Can anybody please fill me in on the optimum weight of a n. laevissimus female for breeding? I am also curious to find out how others keep them. I have seen threads in the past regarding them, but would like to know how others are keeping them, specific details would be appreciated. Thanks

Oli,

I kept mine quite succesfully, much like levis, but at slightly cooler temps. I believe my largest females maxxed out around 20 grams or so

ok, but I have heard that they shouldn't have a moist hide like the levis as they are prone to bacterial skin problems, is this a correct assumption? Is there any special way that one would feed these geckos? Is a nest box used, or just moist deep sand on the deeper/cooler part of the enclosure? Any information on the dusting of their prey, or anything like that? Thanks

laevissimus weight

Just weighted all my laevissimus females and males :
Female 1 - 11.4 gramm
Female 2 - 9.8 gramm
Male 1 - 8.0 gramm
Male 2 - 7.2 gramm
Male 3 - 7.8 gramm

All of the animals range 1 year (youngest male and older) .

Oli,

Oli,

I just looked back at some records.. my largest females topped out in the mid teens (30 month old female). I had some of Garth's "GIANT STRAIN" laevissimus when I was working with them. They were a good deal larger than most of my other specimens in the colony.

I was thinking that you had some of those larger strains of them as I heard that there are the bigger and the smaller animals, how much difference in weight do you think they were Tom? How come you can always see their ribs? Is it because of their thin skin?

Yes, very thin skin, Oli. I would guess that the giant morph was at least 40% larger than the typical strain. I had an adult female that would take a day old mouse without hesitation. Not quite as bulky, but as long as my stellatus easily.

Hello, I have the Garth giants.......shit they are big, I wight mine to day , the biggest one was 17g, but carry eggs.
I also have from Mr plank and they are much slender about 12 g for the heavyest.

I keep mine rather humid at the cool side but let it dry out about once a week.

Im on third generation now.

Tip; Keep holdbacks, females have a tendecy to die for no reason after hibernation.
