tile as substrate?

ive been researching diffent type of substrates for my gecko. i want to get her a new tank that is 36x18x12(LxWxH). how would i put tiles and would my exo terra desert wave penetrate the tile? how will i heat the cool side since my heat lamp is off? thanks.

Hey. I use tiles, and many of teh same stuff as you, in termas of equipment. The heat from teh pad WILL penetrate the tile. As for teh cool, side, you don't want that heated. Room temperature on that side will be fine.

thanks but how do you fill the spaces between the tiles and how do i take them out to clean them?

What I do, Is i just take the tiles off the backing, and slide them up right against each other. If you are not housing anything in your tank (which I think you are) you could grout the tile. I have never done that, so if you do that let em know how it goes. As for cleaning the tiles, get a pair of tweezers, the kind with bent ends, the lift up one of the tiles. The other tiles will be simple to remove after that.
