A few weeks ago I asked in the reptile store for little frogs, and easy to keep.

I was recommended the E. Tricolor.
So I read about them (also in an book), and found out they are indeed suitable to begin with. So I decided to keep them.

I'm very excited about them. They move around a lot during day time, and have a different color than most frogs. I found out they are very good climbers, and they like to sit on the leaves of their Bromelia plant.
Sometimes they like jumping from a height in their frog pool, very funny to watch.

I hope to chat with others that keeps frogs.

They're cute, and a lot of fun. I kept a group of them many years ago, found them to be one of the more interesting dart species. Their call is really sweet.

More interesting you say? That give me good hope I've made the right choice.

I was a little surprised how much they walk and climb, because I understand they live on the ground most of the time.

The only thing is, they did not call yet. So I bought a third one this weekend. With a smaller body in the back. But maybe it's also an female :?
How often do males call?

I can't recall exactly how often or when, there were over 150 frogs in my collection, and it's been a few years, so some details are fuzzy. However, I do recall that once they were mature, they called almost constantly when there was a storm brewing, just like the other frogs. They also seemed to call a lot when I misted the enclosures, again around sunrise and sunset.

Tricolors are very prolific breeders, so be prepared to be swamped with little guys.

Yesss, a call!

Good news!

I heard one of the frogs calling, quite loud!
It was three times, not much time between them.

A good thing too, because I was planning to bring the last frog back, and trade him in for another one..

I know now almost for sure that the last one is the male, because he is much taller in the back. Also his stripes are bigger (yellow), so I can keep them apart.

I am :D

So, did you like the call? It's such a nice thing to hear them on a miserable morning. Between these guys and the leucomela calling at sunrise, it as almost a pleasure to wake up.

Yes, I did. Although it was somewhat loud for my ears. ;-)

I did not hear him call yet in the morning, only in the evening/during the night. Maybe it needs time to accommodate to his new environment? Because in the shop they said that normally a male quickly starts calling a lot..

Do they like refreshing their water often in their frog pools, or just let it get "dirty", and sometimes put some Biotize stuff in it, to keep it free from harmfull bacteria?
