Blind Grandis

I had this weird little one hatch out early last week. I knew something was off bout it when I first saw it, but it took me a few moments to realize that it hatched without any eyes.

Anyways, it seems to be doing just fine other than the lack of eyes, it's eating (CGD)/drinking and navigating just fine. I also seems to be able to sense light and objects and basks just like a normal grandis.

I'm not sure what caused the lack of eyes, it's clutchmate is 100% normal and so were the 10 other siblings that I hatched out from this pairing in the last year and a half. I've ruled out inbreeding as a possibility because the male came from a crimson outcross pairing and my female is a LTC high red.

Any ideas?

maybe it was a mutation. like if a human baby is born with no arm it is a 1 in a billion chance but that stuff does happen. good to hear he is doin good. :)

if it will grow well u can sell it for much more than normal grandis.
I did read that rare mutaton that animal can live with are rly wanted on the market.(ofc 2headed more than no eye's).Also In my personal opinion u shoud go to the wet to get ultrasongraphy (USG) to check if the eye's were developed or not, also it have no left nostril and mayby with growing up it will have problem with breathing, so maby it will need a surgery.

FAIL

You don't exploit deformed animals.

This little one will be staying with me, right now I'm just hoping eventually he'll be able to smell his way around well enough to find food on his own.

It sounds like the little guy is doing surprisingly well considering his disability.
Were there any abnormalities with the incubation on this one?
It'll be interesting to see if he makes it to adulthood.

And I think selling him for lots of money because he has no eyes is just a little bit messed up...

The only other abnormalities are the slightly misshaped head and the missing bit of his right lip/nostril - you can see where his tongue pokes out a bit there. The head shape makes him look slightly like a little alligator.

I know it may be messed up but I've been calling him Stevie Wonder. lol

lol... harsh but funny

Taking into consideration all of his abnormalities, it seems as if it is a fair chunk of his skull that is missing or deformed? If he doesn't make it, it would be very interesting to have him skeletonised and see what he's like under the flesh.
